The ffarra Team

Isabelle
Founder

Isabelle has always had a great love for animals, and grew up surrounded by pets of all kinds, from hamsters to horses! She has always known she wanted to work closely with animals in some way. Her passion for parrots began when she and her husband welcomed Emmie, a green-cheek conure into their lives several years ago. She was amazed at how much personality and intelligence was packed into that little bundle of feathers! When she felt ready for another bird, she looked for a shelter to adopt a bird in need but found there was no registered organization for parrots in Alberta. This prompted her to start a rescue and adoption organization in 2001. Isabelle feels fortunate to work closely with many parrots through FFARRA and finds great joy in seeing these wonderful beings find new homes where they receive the love and care they deserve.

Isabelle now shares her home with several parrots, big and small, as well as 2 dogs and a cat. Her feathered friends include Celeste (eclectus), Sunny (citron cockatoo), Blue (blue-front amazon), Emmie (green-cheek conure), Mooshie (peach-front conure), & Gizmo (mulga parakeet)

Kari

President, Co-Founder

Kari was introduced to birds over 14 years ago when she decided to share her apartment with a finch and a budgie. This sparked her passion for birds, and she has been continually learning about parrots ever since. When she settled in a home 2 years later, a larger parrot was soon to follow. After much research and visiting breeders, Kari welcomed Taz, a mustache parakeet, into her home. Taz and Kari were soon joined by George, an umbrella cockatoo. George's previous family had been struck by tragedy, and he was in need of a new home. Then, Kari learned of another bird in need of a new home: Echo, a timneh african grey, joined Kari's flock of feathered friends! A big part of Kari's life has been about parrots: Making bird toys, birdsitting, parrot clubs, and connecting birds in need with loving, permanent homes. So starting FFARRA came naturally to her!

Kari's flock currently consists of Taz (mustache parakeet) and Echo (timneh african grey). Sadly, her beloved George passed away due to age-related health problems and after two years of continual vet care and nursing. He is dearly remembered and missed by Kari and all her friends who knew him.

Linda

Edmonton Event Coordinator

Linda has loved parrots for a long time and was happy to foster a FFARRA bird to learn more about them. She is currently fostering a sweet but willful large cockatoo, and is rising up to the challenge! Linda will continue to volunteer with FFARRA and is also considering adopting a new feathered friend into her home.

Some ffarra Volunteers

Tanya

Tanya has a great love for animals of all kinds. Her home is always full with the sounds of pets, whether it's the purr of a cat, the bark of a dog, the hum of a salt water fish tank, or the chirp of her cockatiel A.J. It wasn't a surprise that when she heard of Coco, an african grey that needed of a home, she was quick to go to its' aid!

Tanya was very happy to join FFARRA and help the many birds in need. She enjoys helping birds find great homes and new families, so there are more "Happy Endings" like Coco's story!

Joelle

Joelle has been a FFARRA volunteer ever since 2001 when the organization had just begun! She has helped us with all public events like Pets in the Park and the Pet Expo. She has also been a tremendous help in spreading the word about FFARRA and supporting our cause!

Joelle currently has several birds: Orkie (black-headed caique), Caesar (white-capped pionus), Telly (parrotlet), and Nanner (canary).

Nancy S.

Nancy is a veritable fountain of knowledge when it comes to parrots! She has bred several species of parrots for many years, and welcomed many birds into her home that no one else wanted. Some were believed to be beyond help, but with her love, patience and dedication, they settled into her home and overcame their problems. Nancy has helped FFARRA with birds that had behavioral problems by offering the knowledge she has gained over the many years she has cared for parrots. She has also donated many items she hand-made for FFARRA to sell to raise funds. Nancy shares her home with many parrots, from macaws to cockatiels!

Marlene & Stephanie

Marlene and her daughter Stephanie became volunteers in early 2003,and offered their home to foster parrots waiting for adoption. They also adopted Woody, a blue-front amazon, from FFARRA. Woody has blossomed into a very, very happy bird in their care!

Autumn & Twyla

Autumn and Twyla joined the FFARRA Team of volunteers and fostered Scarlet, a beautiful eclectus gal. It didn't take long for them to fall in love with Scarlet! They have now adopted her, welcoming her to their family of pets: cockatiels, a gerbil and fish. Autumn and Twyla continue to volunteer and help FFARRA any way they can.

Jennifer

Jennifer is a new volunteer for FFARRA, and has been an excellent foster "parront". Being a veterinary technician, Jennifer is used to handling animals of all kinds! She chose to volunteer with FFARRA to learn even more about parrots.

Kayla

Kayla has a great love for animals, especially birds! She has joined to FFARRA Team of volunteers to learn as much as possible about caring for pet parrots. She currently has her own feathered friends - cockatiels and parrotlets - as well as some furry companions - 2 sweet dogs. Kayla would like to be a veterinarian in the future, and specialize in avian medecine. We're happy to have her on our team!

FFARRA thanks all our volunteers for their help and generosity! We couldn't exist to help parrots in need without them.

FFARRA is always looking to welcome caring people to our team of volunteers. If you would like to help us help birds in need, click on the button below:
